To Contact your US Senators and Representatives:

The most important thing you can do as an individual is contact your US Senators and Members of the House of Representatives and ask them to cosponsor the bill. A cosponsor adds his/her name directly to the bill, which can greatly increase the likelihood of the bill being passed.

Click here to find your Members of Congress. From there you can link to their website and go to the 'contact' page. Many members prefer you to use an email form they have created. Remember to be brief, and reference The Endocrine Disruption Prevention Act, introduced by Congressman Jim Moran (HB 4190) and Senator John Kerry (S2828).

If you wish, you may use this sample text in your email. It is likely that your email will simply be counted, so the effort to write a personal message may not be worth it. Sending the email is the most important step!

Sample text:

As your constituent, I urge you to become a cosponsor of The Endocrine Disruption Prevention Act of 2009, introduced by Congressman Jim Moran (HB 4190) and Senator John Kerry (S2828).

The NIEHS has the unique capacity to move forward to broaden the knowledge about endocrine disruption; to use that knowledge to develop comprehensive assays that can detect multiple endocrine disrupting outcomes; and to determine the level of concern regarding the potential to disrupt the human endocrine system. With this information, regulatory agencies will be able to establish the health-protective measures we so urgently need.

Letter to Congress:

Dear Members of Congress,

We are writing to express our support for The Endocrine Disruption Prevention Act of 2009.

We believe that the NIEHS, through its intramural and extramural research programs, has the capacity to move forward to broaden the knowledge about endocrine disruption; to use that knowledge to develop comprehensive assays that can detect multiple endocrine disrupting outcomes; and to determine the level of concern regarding the potential to disrupt the human endocrine system. With this information, regulatory agencies will be able to establish the health-protective measures that are so urgently needed.

For these reasons, as well as others outlined in the proposed Act, we urge you to vote for this critical legislation.

To send a letter from your organization directly to Congress:

If you represent an organization and wish to send a letter of support to Congress, email your letter to Tim Aiken in Congressman Jim Moran's office (tim.aiken@mail.house.gov) and Megan Thompson in Senator John Kerry's office (Megan_Thompson@kerry.senate.gov).

It must be clear in the letter that you are speaking on behalf of your organization.

Please also send a copy to tedxlist@endocrinedisruption.org so that we can keep track of the letters. Emails to congressional offices are often spam-blocked and do not arrive at their destination. Sending a copy to us will ensure that your letter is received.

Thank you!
